Acceptable Noise Level (ANL)

When people are having a conversation at a restaurant (where there is a lot of background noise). The background noise doesn’t bother one person, while it can be very annoying to the other person. It doesn’t matter if you are young or old, hearing or hard of hearing, male or female, everyone’s ANL (acceptable noise level) is different.

Your ability to function in background noise affects your hearing aid use. Individuals who can accept background noise will be more successful communicating. Try hearing aids even if you happen to be a person who is intolerable of background noise. There is new technology that will help reduce some of the background noise.
