WHAT IS
AN AUDIOLOGIST?
An
audiologist is a person who has earned a degree in the science and application
of Audiology specializing in the functioning of the ear, hearing and balance
systems. An audiologist may have any of
a variety of degrees: Au.D.: Doctor of Audiology; doctorate (PhD); educational
doctorate (EdD); master’s degree (MS: master of science or MA: master of arts).
The American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), American Academy of
Audiology and the American Board of Audiology are organizations that currently
certify audiologists. A certified
audiologist will have the letters CCC-A (Certificate of Clinical
Competence-Audiology), FAAA (Fellow of American Academy of Audiology) or ABA
(American Board of Audiology certified) following their name.
